Is cataract surgery painful?
Most patients experience minimal discomfort. Dr. Liu uses numbing drops to keep you comfortable throughout the procedure, which typically takes just 15 to 30 minutes. A protective shield is placed over your eye when you leave, and any mild sensation as you heal can be managed with prescribed drops.
What symptoms indicate that cataracts are progressing?
Cataracts often cause worsening glare, difficulty reading in dim light, dulled or yellowed colors, and increased difficulty with night driving. If you find yourself struggling to do things you used to do easily — especially in low light — it is worth scheduling an evaluation with Dr. Liu.
Will I need glasses after cataract surgery?
It depends on the lens you choose. Monofocal IOLs deliver excellent clarity at a single focal point (typically distance), so reading glasses are often still helpful. Premium multifocal IOLs are designed to support vision at multiple distances and can dramatically reduce dependence on glasses for most daily activities.
Can cataract surgery correct astigmatism?
Yes. Toric IOLs and select premium lenses are specifically designed to correct astigmatism at the same time your cataracts are treated, so you get clearer vision and reduced reliance on glasses in a single procedure.
How long will my artificial lens last?
Your intraocular lens is designed to remain stable and clear for the rest of your life. Unlike your natural lens, IOLs do not cloud or develop cataracts, so once you have cataract surgery, it does not need to be redone.
When can I return to work?

Can both eyes be treated on the same day?
In some cases, yes. Dr. Liu will determine whether same-day treatment is appropriate during your evaluation. Many patients have one eye treated first, then the second eye a week or two later, so they always have one good eye to rely on during recovery.
