How do I know which procedure is right for me?

Dr. Liu performs a complete eye health evaluation, reviews your prescription history, considers your age and lifestyle, and walks you through which procedures are an option, which are not, and why. You will leave with a clear understanding of your eyes and a recommendation you can trust — not a sales pitch for the most profitable option.
What if I am not a candidate for LASIK?
You almost certainly still have great options. Dr. Liu is the most experienced SMILE surgeon on the West Coast and the most experienced ICL surgeon in the South Bay, and she also performs PRK, RLE, and cataract surgery. The point of the consultation is to find what fits your eyes — LASIK is just one of six procedures we offer.
Are these procedures safe?
Modern vision correction procedures are among the most studied and refined elective surgeries in medicine. When performed by an experienced surgeon on a qualified candidate, the safety profile of each procedure is excellent. Your consultation includes a thorough evaluation to confirm you are a strong candidate before any procedure is scheduled.
Will I still need glasses after surgery?
It depends on the procedure and the lens you choose. Laser procedures (LASIK, SMILE, PRK) typically eliminate the need for glasses for distance, though reading glasses may still be helpful as you age. Lens-based procedures (EVO ICL, RLE, Cataract) with premium multifocal options can dramatically reduce dependence on glasses for both distance and near. Dr. Liu will tell you honestly what to expect.
Does insurance cover vision correction?
Most refractive procedures (LASIK, SMILE, PRK, EVO ICL, RLE) are considered elective and are not covered by insurance. Cataract surgery is medically necessary, but Beach Cities Laser Vision is a cash-pay practice for cataract care as well — which means your lens recommendations are based on your visual priorities, not insurance restrictions. We offer transparent pricing and financing through ALPHAEON Credit for all procedures.
What does the consultation cost?

For more comprehensive diagnostic testing, a $200 evaluation fee applies, which is credited toward your procedure if you move forward with surgery.
How long is recovery from vision correction surgery?
Recovery varies by procedure. LASIK and SMILE patients are typically back to normal activities within 24 to 48 hours. PRK takes a few days longer for visual recovery. EVO ICL, RLE, and Cataract Surgery patients are usually back to work within a few days, with vision continuing to sharpen over the following weeks.
